I work in abstract and narrative painting, collage and photography. I paint responsively, pouring pigment, reveling in translucencies, opacities and incidents of surprise.Visual electricity guides my hand as I follow wandering desire lines and define shape with paint, smoke, conte, ink, graphite and charcoal. As the drawing emerges in the atmospheric field. I wipe the surface with a damp cloth, affecting a ghost memory of the prior painting. I shift the format and engage again, painting layers until layers of color, shape, and atmosphere reflect meaning.
My imagery is personally symbolic, and intentionally ambiguous. The memory of a tent, bodies touching, continents shifting, arial geography and between spaces interplay. My atmospheric color of muted earth tones, peach, gray, charcoal and sienna is reminiscent of Morandi’s table. Mysterious, engaging, sensual and atmospheric, these paintings look beautiful on the wall.
